These are just samples. They are not "artist-grade," meaning they were not intentionally made for fine art. The spalting is pretty strong in some areas, which makes those spots very soft- like fingernail indent soft. They have been sanded smooth though. Some people rally love the spalted woods, others don't care for them.
They are perfect for just trying out a new wood and playing with burning and adding color and such.
